Stat Package FAQs and Other Aids for Analyzing
Data
- SSDAN--Census Data in
the Classroom University of Michigan
The long name is Social Science Data Analysis Network.
The project provides teachers with small datasets from
the U.S. census to assist in teaching social science
themes and immerse students in data early in their
education. Chippendale software is used.
- StatLib
Datasets Archive (Carnegie Mellon University).
Includes access to a wide variety of datasets suitable
for instructional purposes. Part of Statlib, an
interesting mix of statistical tools and goodies.
- On-line Basic
Statistics textbook in its entirety! (From UCLA).
- Frequently
Asked Statistics Questions, Statistical Advice (free),
and so forth from the University of Southern
California.
- Another educational tool for statistical methods has been placed on the
WWW by the DASL project at Carnegie Mellon
University. DASL (pronounced "dazzle") is an online library of datafiles
and stories that illustrate the use of basic statistics methods. The goal
is to provide data from a wide variety of topics so that statistics teachers
can find real-world examples, interesting to their students. The archive contains
two types of files, stories and datafiles. Each story applies a particular
statistical method to a set of data. Each datafile has one or more associated
stories. Data can be downloaded as a space- or tab-delimited table of text.
Lists of topics, methods, and data subjects are available, as well as a flexible,
weighted search form.
- Data Libraries and other academic departments have placed
very helpful documents on the Web to assist users in
using statistical data as well as stat packages such as
SAS and SPSS. We encourage you to look at these sites if
you are having problems using data, or, as always, come
talk to the friendly staff at DPLS.
- In addition, companies like SAS and SPSS
have put up extensive web sites with lots of helpful
documents.
