CHINA COUNTY-LEVEL DATA ON POPULATION (CENSUS) AND AGRICULTURE, KEYED TO 1:1M GIS MAP ABSTRACT The China County-Level Data on Population (Census) and Agriculture, Keyed to 1:1M GIS Map contains 1990 census and agricultural economic variables at the county level for the People's Republic of China, and also includes geocoded China county boundary GIS data in 1:1M scale for 1990. The data was derived from the 1990 Provincial Census Books, published by the China Statistics Publishing House in 1992, the China Countryside Economic Statistics Briefly, 1990, published by the Statistics Publishing House in 1991, and the China Administrative Regions GIS Data: 1:1M, County Level, 1990, published by the Consortium for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) in 1996. SPECIAL CONDITIONS, LIMITATIONS, OR REQUIREMENTS These data are for non-commercial use only. No third party distribution is permitted. Dissemination is to originate from CIESIN, only. DATA DESCRIPTION and FORMAT The data are available in two formats: ARC/INFO export and dBASE IV. The files have been zipped using UNIX zip which is compatible with DOS Pkzip. A readme file (ReadMe.txt) describes the data. 1. chinae00.zip contains three files: chinaad1.e00 - census data file, chinaae1.e00 - ethnicity data file, and chinaag1.e00 - agriculture data file. 2. chinadbf.zip contains three files: chinaad1.dbf - census data file, chinaae1.dbf - ethnicity data file, and chinaag1.dbf - agriculture data file. 3. my901.zip contains my901.e00 which is a single-precision derivative of the file tbd90 (Liu Chuang, Yao Xuron, and William Lavely) from the dataset entitled "China Administrative Regions GIS Data: 1:1M, County Level, 1990", distributed by CIESIN (Consortium for International Earth Science Information Network) in May 1996, at ftp.ciesin.org: /pub/data/China/adm_bnd/CTSAR90.bnd90/national. It is geocoded to match the attribute data files in the China County-Level Data on Population (Census) and Agriculture, Keyed to 1:1M GIS Map. Additional documentation about the data can be found at the website: http://citas.csde.washington.edu/data/cntybnd/overview.htm and http://citas.csde.washington.edu/data/chinaA/datasets.htm CIESIN DATA POLICIES DATA POLICY OVERVIEW It is CIESIN's policy to facilitate full and open access to quality data for global change research without infringing on the privacy rights of others.
