Abstract: This is the sixth issue of the Statistical Yearbook in CD-ROM format (SYB-CD), which is largely based on the print version of the Yearbook, prepared by the Statistics Division, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, of the United Nations Secretariat. It contains series covering, in general, 1980 to 1996 or 1997 and presents the statistics available to the Statistics Division up to 30 September 1998. Statistical series in SYB-CD are organized into 19 topics or categories. Each topic or category has one or several tables. Within the tables, there are one or more series. There are more than 400 series. The topics or categories included in the SYB-CD are: agriculture, hunting, forestry and fishing; balance of payments; culture and communications; development assistance; education and literacy; energy; environment; financial statistics; health and child-bearing; international finance; international merchandise trade; international tourism; labour force; manufacturing; national accounts and industrial production; population and human settlements; science and technology, intellectual property; transport; wages and prices. Thanks to the close cooperation of the statistical services of nearly 20 international organizations and of many offices at the United Nations Secretariat, the Yearbook is able to provide hundreds of series on every aspect of economic and social life in over 200 countries and areas around the world.
