Abstract: The world trade flows data on this CD-ROM are based on the bilateral trade data collected by the United Nations Statistical Office. Statistics Canada has recompiled the UN trade data on a consistent basis, using a version of the Standard International Trade Classification (SITC) Revision 2, modified to match Canadian trade and industry classifications and to accommodate some of the variation in the way countries report their data. The resulting dataset is called the World Trade Analyzer (WTA), and the annual bilateral trade values from the WTA for all the countries of the world over 1980-1997 are included on this CD-ROM. (Since Statistics Canada normally revises the recent years of data, the figures for 1997 should be treated preliminary.) Files on the CD-ROM are flat ASCII files. Record layout information can be found in the codebook. The WTA data concorded to the Bureau of Economic Analysis Industry classification are also included on the CD-ROM.
