Abstract: The databases in this collection were created from a variety of censuses created by Spanish and American officials. Each record represents a resident of New Orleans, Mobile, or Pensacola. Some of the census records are more inclusive than others. Those recorded during the Spanish period are particularly complete, capturing names, ages, sexes, race or color classifications, and household patterns, but also slaveholding and other property-holding patterns. The data entered into each respective database include all of the data available for each household. (Abstract is excerpted from an introduction about this study.)
