Abstract: The International Social Survey Program (ISSP) is an ongoing program of crossnational collaboration. Formed in 1984, the group develops topical modules dealing with important areas of social science as supplements to regular national surveys. This data collection, the second module in the series, contains data from West Germany, Great Britain, United States, Italy, Austria, Australia, and Hungary. The data provide detailed accounts of respondents' contacts with various relatives and friends along with information about where they would turn for help when faced with situations such as financial need, minor illness, career advice, and emotional distress. Demographic data on respondents also are provided.
