Abstract: In 1998 the East Asia and Pacific Region of the World Bank sponsored a new and comprehensive firm level data survey of over 3000 manufacturing establishments in four East Asian countries: Indonesia, Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand. Contrary to previous databases which are mainly restricted to a single country, this database provides a wide set of comparable and objective measures of firm performance for all these four countries during the 1996-1998. It provides information on a broad ranges of issues, both within and across the region, ranging from productivity to financial structure, employment, investment, technology acquisition, and the impact of the crises.
