Abstract: The data were collected over the period 1993 to 1995 in a series of three annual surveys, referred to as Wave I, Wave II and Wave III, and were conducted on enterprises taken from 4 manufacturing sectors: wood, metal, food and textile. The objective was to survey a number of firms, more or less equally in each sector, that reflected the size distribution of firms and included informal sector firms, along with various ownership types (privately and publicly owned firms, foreign and domestic owned firms). In terms of geographical representation, the efforts were concentrated in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru and Eldoret. Both formal and informal firms were interviewed.
