Abstract: These data were collected in an attempt to analyze systematically a large body of Latin American archival data for the study of African history. It concerns a major sector of the Atlantic slave trade in the later part of the 18th century and first years of the 19th century: the route from various Portuguese ports in Africa to the Brazilian port city of Rio de Janeiro, over which some 170,000 Africans were shipped between 1795 to 18 March 1811.
