Abstract: The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is a periodic survey conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). NHANES III (1988-94) is the seventh in a series of these surveys based on a complex multistage sample design. It is designed to provide national estimates of health and nutritional status of the civilian noninstitutionalized population of the United States aged 2 months and older.
