Abstract: The School Survey on Crime and Safety (SSOCS) is the primary source of school-level data on crime and safety for the U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The SSOCS is a nationally representative cross-sectional survey of about 3,500 public elementary and secondary schools. It is designed to provide estimates of school crime, discipline, disorder, programs and policies. SSOCS is administered to public primary, middle, high, and combined school principals in the spring of even-numbered school years. This 2007-08 SSOCS public-use data file (NCES 2010-368) provides variables related to school safety, including the frequency of school crime and violence, disciplinary actions, and school practices related to the prevention and reduction of crime.
