Abstract: The Direction of Trade Statistics (DOTS) provides monthly, quarterly and yearly time series data with detailed information on imports and exports for various countries and geographical areas of the world. The area and world tables show trade flows between major areas of the world. The DOTS database contains data on the value of merchandise exports f.o.b. (free on board) and imports c.i.f. (cost including insurance and freight) between 186 countries and each of their trading partners. Along with data from reporting countries, estimates are provided by partner countries for non-reporting countries or for those that are slow to report for a worldwide bilateral picture. All the series are expressed in U.S. dollars. The work of adjusting the data and estimating gaps takes time; as a result the data lag about 5-months from the reported period and actual release date of the data. Users can locate DOTS series by selecting the source 'IMF Direction of Trade Statistics' on the criteria search screen.
