Most of its contents is in Spanish. There are also auxiliary files and procedures than can be used to create a new file, where the targets and their spouses being 60 or older in PREHCO 1 are presented as 3,849 independent records with 665 variables common to both target and spouse only. This file increases PREHCO2 sample size. A different weight variable, FACTORTC should be used for this file. 11/24/2010 PREHCO2 was added to DISC Online Archive

Abstract: PREHCO2 interviewed survivors of the sample interviewed in PREHCO1. It collected information on changes in health, functional limitations, depression, cognition and mortality as well as on family and residential arrangement transitions, familial and non familial transfers, fluctuations in income and assets and, finally, labor force status changes. It has 4,291 cases and 2,766 variables. PREHCO data provides a rich source to examine these areas of research: 1. investigation of uniformly high age and sex-specific prevalence of obesity and self-reported diabetes (type II); 2. investigation of race differentials in measures of health and functional status, 3. assessment of conjectures posing a relation between health and functional limitations of older cohorts and their early childhood experiences of malnutrition and disease; 4. health, functional status and mortality differentials across socioeconomic levels and among individuals with and without migrant experiences in the US. PREHCO 2 presents some significant differences from PREHCO 1. Its questionnaire was adapted to PREHCO 1 data, experimental section E of the questionnaire (Cantrill Scale) was dropped, the experimental symptoms sub-section of the Health section (Section G) was dropped as well, section H (Childhood Conditions) was repeated to evaluated the accuracy and conditionings of remote information provided by the respondents, Section O on Migration was improved, the mistreat section was deleted because of the poor results obtained in PREHCO 1, a number of anthropometric measures and physical efficiency tests were added to those in PREHCO 1, and a new Caregivers Section was added. For those PREHCO 1 participants who died or were institutionalized in the inter-wave period a small versions of the PREHCO 2 questionnaire were answered by their proxies.
