Abstract: The National Family Health Surveys (NFHS) are nationwide surveys conducted with a representative sample of households throughout the country. Three NSFH surveys were conducted in 1992-1993, 1998-1999 and 2005-2006. NFHS were designed to provide national and state estimates of fertility, family planning, infant and child mortality, reproductive and child health, nutrition of women and children, the quality of health and family welfare services, and socioeconomic conditions. The NFHS surveys use standardized uestionnaires, sample designs, and field procedures to collect data. NSFH-1 Interviews were conducted with a nationally representative sample of 88,562 households and 89,777 ever-married women age 13-49 years in 24 states and the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
