Abstract: This collection of digital boundary definitions for every U.S. Congressional District between 1789 and 2012 were produced as part of NSF grant SBE-SES-0241647 between 2009 and 2013. These shapefiles were considered as an initial-release version by the principal investigators. Many districts in this series were formed by aggregating complete county shapes obtained from the National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) project and the Newberry Library's Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
