Abstract: This study contains data for all 648 constituencies which existed as mainland Britain (i.e. Wales, Scotland and England) between 1950 and 1970. The 12 constituencies in Northern Ireland are excluded. The United Kingdom census has been taken in the first year of each new decade since 1801. The 1966 Sample census was the first to be taken between the decennial ones and the first to be based on a sample of the population (10%). Until the 1966 census very little data, with the exception of such basic items as number of electors, total population, etc. was given for Parliamentary Constituencies, and even this data was not available for 1961. For the 1966 census, however, there was a change in government policy resulting in the publication of a considerable body of data for Parliamentary Constituencies. It is from this data that the data for this study was derived.
