Abstract: This data collection assesses Americans' access to health care, use of medical services, and problems encountered in obtaining health care. The file contains variables on the respondent's personal background, utilization of medical, dental, and mental health services, and experiences obtaining care.

SOURCE: personal interviews

UNIVERSE: All households with telephones in the 48 contiguous states.

SAMPLE: The sample selection was conducted by telephone using carefully designed probability procedures. Seriously ill adults and children were oversampled so there would be sufficient numbers for separate analysis.
