Abstract: This is an investigation of a cohort of high school aged youth in Columbia, South Carolina. Students received identical questionnaires each year. The longitudinal data contain respondents' information on demographic and socio-economic characteristics, educational aspirations, occupational aims and peer group activities. Also included in the data are information on which offenses they committed, the number of times they were ''caught'' by the police, their attitudes toward deviancy, and perceived certainty of punishment.
