Abstract: This study contains data for 428 new polities--all polities that developed after a major change in the old policy. There are some 84 variables, including 11 identification variables, 28 variables defining origin and character of polity at its origin and termination, 31 calculated scores for polity characteristics, and 14 generated variables defining characteristics of polities. The temporal domain of the study is circa 1800 -1972. The sources of the data are the Statesman's Yearbook, Annual Register, Encyclopedia of World History, and Cross-Polity Time Series Data (Banks). There are 1,250 card-images.
