Study Number: AH-008-027-1-1-United States-DPLS-1990

Subject Area: Individual

Bibliographic Citation: Recent science and engineering graduates, 1990.  [machine-readable data file] / National Science Foundation  [principal investigator(s)] / Madison, WI: University of Wisconsin. Data and Program Library Service  [distributor].

Comments: 10/2002 The original data file can not be read on the 9-track tape. DPLS staff contacted Mathematica to obtain a replacement copy of the data file. NE90.DAT was sent to DPLS on a CD-ROM. The data file is in card-image. Each case has 4 cards. There are 89,436 physical records and 22,359 cases. Each 80 character record is followed by a CR/LF for a total length of 82.

Access Status: Unrestricted access.

Documentation: Hard copy codebook. Documentation scanned for archival preservation in PDF and TIFF format, 6/97. View codebook. Please use this codebook with caution. It documents the original data file which can not be read any more. Mathematica did confirm that this is the same codebook they have and shall work with the data file, NE90.DAT they sent to DPLS in October of 2002.

Abstract: This survey is one component of an ongoing study of the quantity and characteristics of the U.S. scientific and engineering human resources, initiated by the National Science Foundation in July 1971. This survey was designed to obtain information on the occupational and education status of graduates who receive a Bachelor's or Master's degree during the 1987/88 and 1988/89 academic years in one of seven major fields of science. Data are available on education, demographic characteristics, employment, primary work activities, and median salaries earned.
