Abstract: In 1955 and again in 1957, the Federal Reserve Banks conducted an extensive survey of member banks' loan portfolios. The results of those surveys have been retained by the Board of Governors in the form of individual records describing about 180,000 sampled loans for each of the two surveys. Each record contains information associated with 30 variables of which 10 are characteristics of the bank extending the loan, 7 are characteristics of the borrower, and the remaining 13 describes the loan itself. From the sampled loans, information about the commercial loans of all Federal Reserve member banks can be derived.
