Comments: UNIVERSE: College faculty in the United States. SAMPLE DESCRIPTION: Stratified sample of 301 institutions of higher education. The same sample was used for the National Survey of Higher Education, 1969. Mail questionnaires (with two followups) were sent to 108,722 faculty with a response rate of 49% (53,034 respondents). For study design and weighting procedures, see Teaching Faculty in Academe, pp. 2-10. CONDITION OF DATA: As received from American Council on Education. The data for five respondents were lost during data processing at ACE. Please note that the percentages in the published report are based on a subset (n=42,345) of these data: persons identified as being currently active teaching faculty. Those excluded from the subset responded either that they had moved from the institution or that they had never taught or were not teaching in the 1972-73 academic year. Individual institutions are not identified.
