Abstract: The data file contains variables designed to measure the degree of contentment (happiness, comfort, satisfaction) given the personal situation on such topics as living arrangements and interpersonal relationships; behavioral and affective signs and symptoms, such as self-ratings on the participant's suspiciousness, fearfulness, melancholy, interest in personal appearance and manners, accidents, suicide; functional competence: mental-(orientation/memory, and intelligence) and physical; and environmental protection (interested parties, concrete assistance, physical environment), such as a number of persons involved with the participant, degree of their interest, frequency of contact, actual assistance received from persons or organizations on significant life matters, degree of protection afforded the participant by the physical environment. Demographic variables include amount of time spent in the Cleveland area, birthplace, age, where mother and father born, nationality, marital status, number of children, level of education, occupation, occupation of spouse and parents, income.
