Abstract: This data is for a study that was done in Brazil. In Phase I of this study, a field survey was conducted over a representative sample of communities and villages in an effort to determine community characteristics (e.g. social-structural characteristics, modernization levels of the community and its leadership, and quality and quantity of interaction with the change agency) which appeared to be conducive to more successful modernization and development. This survey was followed by a second which concentrated on characteristics of individual farm decision makers (Phase II) and this with a set of field 'treatments' designed to investigate under controlled conditions the relative efficiency of various communication strategies (Phase III).
