Abstract: The study focuses on foster parenting in Wisconsin. It is the third phase of a three phase study of child welfare in the United States. The purpose was to gather information on the retention of foster parents and the types of assistance required to meet the needs of the children in their care. The data file contains information on three broad areas of foster parenting: experiences of foster parents in meeting the everyday needs of foster children and how agencies have responded to these needs; the experiences and needs of foster children with 'special characteristics,' such as handicaps; and background characteristics of foster parents in the sample.
