Abstract: The 8 card images for each tract are divided into two files. Decks 1-4 are raw data on population (total, males, females, Negroes, foreign origin, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Russian and Italian) age (median for white and nonwhite males and females; females 14 and older; and number of persons older than 5-years, under 18, and over 25), family (number of married couples, married couples with own household, unrelated individuals, married females, separated females, married couples with own children under 18 and married women with husband present in labor force; and population per household), education (number of persons 25 and older who completed 1-3 years of high school, who graduated from high school, who completed 1-3 years of college and who are college graduates; and median years of school completed), income (base population for income data; number of persons with incomes $6000 to $6999, $7000 to $7999, $8000 to $8999, $9000 to $9999, $10,000 to $14,999, $15,000 to $24,999, and above $25,000; median family income; and percent with incomes less than $3000), housing (percent of housing units which are substandard, median rent, previous residence, and number of persons who lived in the South 5 years ago), and occupation (percent of male labor force which is unemployed, percent of male labor force in white collar occupations, total number of employed males, and number of males employed in nine specified occupations). Decks 5-8 repeat many of the raw variables transformed into percentage terms and include additional data on area of tract; latitude; longitude; and numbers of pharmacists, hospital beds, short-term hospitals, general hospitals, physicians over 70, total physicians, physicians who passed National Board, general treatment physicians, pediatricians, specialists, and National Medical Association members. This data set complements other DPLS sets dealing with hospitals and individual physicians -0 07-028, 07-029.
