Abstract: This study focuses on the effect and effectiveness of state and federal government in the United States. Information has been obtained on the respondent's perceived past and present standards of living, and the major problems in his or her life. Respondents were queried on the effectiveness of government in dealing with the major social issues of the time; his or her evaluation of government and politicians, and level of confidence in leadership, political parties, business, educational institutions, media, and the church. Opinions were also solicited on the consequences of Watergate, the ability of the individual to change governmental policies, and the extent of government control over the individual. In addition, standard demographic information was collected on respondent's education, religion, income, sex, race, etc.
