Abstract: This file contains data collected in a two-year study of Indian villages, their leaders and farmers. Aggregate data on the 108 villages include such variables as degree of structure and institutional development, geographic and mental isolation factors, and degree of democratic decision-making. Data for 856 village leaders include such variables a urban and media contact, community and political opinions. Variables in the data on the 680 village residents interviewed in 1966 and the 279 farmers interviewed in 1967 include literacy, social participation, urbanism, media exposure, sacred-secular orientation, partriarchicalism, achievement motivation, education and occupational aspiration, empathy, interpersonal trust, risk orientation, time and planning orientation and political knowledgeability.
