Abstract: This study contains data for a two year study on Indian villages, their leaders and farmers. Aggregate data on the 108 villages include degree of structure and institutional development, geographic and mental isolation factors, and degree of democratic decision making. Data for 856 village leaders include urban and media contact, community and political opinions, and demographic information. Data on the 680 village residents interviewed in 1966 and 279 farmers interviewed in 1967 include literacy, social participation, urbanism, media exposure, sacred-secular orientation, patriarchalism, achievement motivation, educational and occupational aspirations, empathy, interpersonal trust, risk orientation, time and planning orientation and political knowledgeability.
