Abstract: Between 1974 and 1982, World Fertility Surveys (WFS) were conducted in 42 developing countries. Among them 26 developing countries gave permission to include their data on this CD-ROM. For most countries household and individual level data are available. Household data provide broader demographic information, and individual level data cover such factors as education, occupation, and number of children of the female respondents. All data files have machine readable data dictionary, and most also have SPSS control cards. This is a rich source for cross-sectional fertility data in developing countries. Because each country administered its own survey, survey data vary from country to country. Please see the printed documentation for a list of countries and their files available on this CD-ROM. This project received funding from United Nations Population Fund.
