Abstract: These data examine the continuities and changes between 1972 and 1981 in the careers, political participation, issue preferences, and political perspectives of the group of political activists represented by delegates to the Democratic and Republican National Conventions during that period. Questions tap respondent attitudes toward the party and its nomination process, various issues and candidates, and political ideology. Information on the respondent's past political activity and attitudes toward political participation are also included.

EXTENT OF COLLECTION: 2 data files + machine-readable documentation + SPSS Control Cards.

RESTRICTIONS: In order to preserve respondent confidentiality in this elite population, certain identifying variables will be available only through requested analysis made available through the Servicing Staff of the ICPSR. Most of these variables were recoded to forms which do not threaten confidentiality. These recoded variables are included in the datasets.
